What people research this for

Many people want to protect their memory and thinking as they age, or are looking for answers for a parent or partner. Researchers have tested a few peptides for memory and for protecting brain cells. None of them is an approved dementia treatment.

Researched for

  • Memory and thinking with age
  • Protecting brain cells
  • Mild memory problems

What the studies say so far

The evidence here is thin and uneven. Dihexa has only been tested in animals, mostly rodents in learning and memory tests. Semax has a small brain imaging study in people and no large dementia trial. Cerebrolysin has been used in clinics for decades and has the most human research, but reviews rate the quality of that research as mixed. No peptide on this page has been shown to slow or reverse dementia.
