What people research this for
An Alzheimer's diagnosis sends families looking for anything that might help. A handful of peptides have been studied in this area, mostly in the lab or in early studies. None is an approved Alzheimer's treatment.
Researched for
- Memory loss in Alzheimer's
- Protecting brain cells
- Mild cognitive impairment
What the studies say so far
Cerebrolysin has the longest record, with about 30 years of clinical use reviewed, including a study that paired it with the Alzheimer's drug donepezil and tracked biological markers. The quality of those trials varies a lot. Dihexa and related compounds have mostly been tested in experimental models of Alzheimer's. Humanin work is lab research on how brain cells die. Semax has a brain imaging study, which is a long way from a treatment trial. Overall the research is early and the results are mixed.
